About the role

The Business Systems Analyst at Optum serves as a vital link between business stakeholders and technology teams. This role involves analyzing business needs, eliciting and documenting detailed requirements, supporting solution design, and facilitating testing and implementation of system enhancements. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, capable of translating complex business needs into functional and technical specifications that drive effective technology solutions. The position offers flexibility to telecommute from anywhere within the U.S., or for residents of Richardson, TX, a hybrid-remote work arrangement.

The Business Systems Analyst will play a crucial role in ensuring that technology solutions align with organizational goals, operational needs, and customer expectations, contributing to the overall success of projects and initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Partner with business and technology stakeholders to understand, gather, analyze, document, validate, and manage requirements
• Analyze business processes to identify opportunities for system improvements, automation, and workflow optimization
• Translate business needs into detailed functional requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, and business rules
• Perform impact analysis to identify risks, dependencies, assumptions, and downstream effects of proposed solutions
• Act as a liaison between business users, product managers, architects, developers, QA, and operational teams to ensure alignment and successful delivery
• Support solution design and verify that requirements and solutions meet business objectives and customer needs
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, UAT, and release activities
• Perform testing activities, including defect triage, user acceptance testing, and validation of delivered solutions
• Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, such as requirements, process flows, traceability matrices, and operational procedures
• Investigate production issues, coordinate root-cause analysis, and support resolution efforts
• Ensure delivered solutions comply with operational, quality, regulatory, and customer requirements

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in Business Systems Analysis
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience gathering, documenting, and managing business and system requirements
• Proficiency in creating functional requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, and business rules
• Experience supporting Agile methodologies, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, testing, and release activities
• Ability to collaborate effectively with business, product, architecture, development, QA, and operational teams
• 3+ years of experience with Jira, Rally, SQL, reporting tools, APIs, system integrations, and data analysis
• Experience in creating test plans, test cases, and performing QA testing, UAT, and production validations
