Business Analyst- Lab Systems
About the role
The Business Systems Analyst – Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS) supports laboratory technology workstreams within the LIMS ecosystem by contributing to the design, configuration, and optimization of laboratory system solutions. This role partners with laboratory operations and IT teams to gather requirements, analyze workflows, and implement system enhancements that improve efficiency, data quality, and user experience.
Responsibilities
- Support the configuration, maintenance, and enhancement of LIMS workflows, including molecular, flow cytometry, FISH, ELN, SDMS, and instrument interfaces.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather, document, and refine business and functional requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Translate laboratory workflows into functional specifications, process documentation, and system requirements.
- Prioritize enhancements and resolve defects by partnering with laboratory users and technical teams.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and increased operational efficiency.
- Participate in system implementations, upgrades, testing, defect tracking, and resolution activities.
- Conduct gap analyses and document current-state and future-state workflows.
- Maintain SOPs, process flows, and SDLC documentation.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to support solution design and stakeholder alignment.
- Use effective questioning, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of laboratory operations and supporting technologies.
- Provide responsive and professional service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Meet assigned objectives, project milestones, and delivery deadlines.
- Deliver high-quality support and business analysis services.
- Effectively manage priorities and resources to support departmental goals.
- Adhere to organizational policies, compliance standards, and safety requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Life Sciences, Chemistry, or a related field, or equivalent experience required; advanced degree preferred.
- Two or more years of IT business systems analysis experience required.
- Experience supporting complex system implementation projects preferred.
- Experience mapping and improving end-to-end business workflows through process improvement and automation initiatives.
- Experience eliciting, documenting, and validating requirements across technical and business teams.
- Knowledge of SDLC methodologies and best practices.
- Experience with Jira, Visio, Lucidchart, Azure DevOps, or similar requirements management tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods and lift up to 15 pounds when required.
- No travel required.
