Bus Paraprofessional

About the role

This position assists the bus driver in providing safe, efficient, courteous, and customer-centered transportation for special needs students. Duties include assisting with emergency evacuations, managing student behavior, and performing various physical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively with students, staff, and the public
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Follow oral and written instructions
• Interact courteously and professionally with the public
• Maintain confidentiality
• Manage multiple tasks and set priorities
• Provide a warm and caring attitude towards students
• Recognize and address safety issues
• Supervise students on a daily basis
• Work independently without direct supervision
• Perform nonviolent crisis intervention techniques
• Provide initial first aid/emergency care when needed
• Perform physical tasks such as wiping noses and chins, cleaning/disinfecting, and securing wheelchairs
• Operate and maneuver wheelchairs and secure wheelchairs for transportation
• Monitor and enforce student behavior
• Supervise loading and unloading of buses
• Support the student personnel evaluation team

Requirements

The incumbent must have a high school diploma or equivalent. First Aid/CPR certification is preferred but not required.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $19.45-20.42 per hour.

Schedule

The position is full-time, working 20 hours per day, 4 days per week, for 171 days per year.
