Bus Drivers - Part Time

Salary for the 2025-26 school year: $19,877. Salary for the 2026-27 school year: $20,563. This is a part-time position (15 hours/week) for Class B Drivers.

Responsibilities

• Safe transportation of students to/from school and on extracurricular trips.
• Safe operation of the vehicle in accordance with State of NJ laws and Board policies.
• Maintain control and good order of the vehicle at all times.
• Operate the entrance door and two-way radio.
• Clean the interior of the bus each day.
• Perform pre/post trip bus inspections.
• Deliver/pick-up students as directed in a timely manner.
• Accept instructions from the Director of Transportation/Dispatcher verbally or in writing.
• Perform driving maneuvers including 90-degree left and right turns, driving in a straight line over irregular surfaces, and backing a large bus out of a garage bay using mirrors.
• Maintain work-related records and prepare work reports as directed.
• Project a positive image for the school district.
• Display the highest ethical and professional behavior when working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies.
• Serve as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire, and an effective work ethic.
• Use computers and/or electronic equipment to fulfill job functions.
• Protect confidentiality of records and information about staff within legal confines.
• Adhere to federal statutes, regulations, NJ school law, construction codes, State Board of Education rules, Board policies, and contractual obligations.
• Perform any duties within the scope of employment as assigned by the Director of Transportation.

Daily Duties

• Report to work on time.
• Perform daily bus inspection and report any defects to the dispatcher.
• Leave the bus yard in time to make the first stop at the appointed time.
• Drive at a safe speed to arrive at the school at the appointed time.
• Sweep and clean the bus of all litter.
• Make all seatbelts available by untangling them and laying them over the seatbacks and buckles over the seat cushions.
• Complete Pre and Post Trip inspections on the tablet (or physical if tablet malfunctions) and return it to the office.
• Return school vehicle keys to the office.

Weekly Duties

• Deep cleaning of school vehicles.

Monthly Duties

• Completion of all "Safe Schools" bus driver training.

Requirements

• Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P), School Bus (S), and air brake endorsements.
• Experience preferred.

Schedule

Part-time, 15 hours per week. The term of employment shall not exceed one school year.
