About the role

The Bus Driver Trainee position requires completing the Cherry Creek School District’s bus driver training program and obtaining a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with both a "P" (passenger) and "S" (school bus) endorsement within one month of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and participate in the district Bus Driver training program. (Daily - 20%)
  • Aid in the loading and unloading of students, especially those with special needs. (Daily - 10%)
  • Aid in the development of a team environment through communication with the driver. (Daily - 10%)
  • Acquire and maintain information such as medical information, physical limitations, and symptoms that may require immediate attention or intervention concerning assigned students. (Daily - 10%)
  • Ensure all students are properly loaded and seated. (Daily - 10%)
  • Practice emergency evacuation drills with students and driver. (Weekly - 5%)
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested. (Daily - 5%)

Qualifications

  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
  • No professional work experience required
  • Colorado driver’s license
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with both a "P" (passenger) and "S" (school bus) endorsement within one month of hire
  • CPR and First Aid certification within one month of hire
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Successful completion of a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical within one week of hire
  • Must meet insurability requirements of the Colorado School District Self-Insurance Pool
  • Have a clear/clean Colorado Department of Motor Vehicle record within the past three years
  • Pass Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Colorado Department of Education screenings
  • Motor Vehicle Record dated within the past 30 days
  • Licenses must not have been suspended/revoked within the past three years or have had a probationary license for less than three years
  • Not convicted of DUI or DWAI within the past three years

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Moderate work strength level (lifting or carrying 50 pounds)
  • Works both indoors and outdoors
  • Typically a very loud noise level
  • Work location is subject to change to meet the requirements of the organization
  • Occasional bending, reaching, and climbing
  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)
  • Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more)
  • Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors)
  • Peripheral vision
  • Depth perception
  • Visual concentration
  • Ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to appropriately interact with the public, students, and coworkers
  • Exposure to all weather conditions
