Bus Driver Trainee
About the role
Under the direction of the Director of Transportation or designee, receives instruction for the purpose of acquiring the necessary skills to safely and effectively operate a school bus with designated routes within established time schedules. This position is distinguished from the Bus Driver classification such that the Trainee position will be learning the primary duties of and working towards full certification and licensure to become a qualified School Bus Driver.
Responsibilities
Learn to operate a school bus safely and effectively on designated routes, adhere to time schedules, and complete training toward full certification and licensure as a School Bus Driver.
Requirements
- Unit: Unclassified
- Valid California Driver’s License
- Copy of DMV driving record
- Live Scan
- Pre-employment (PEP) strength test
- Tuberculosis Examination
- DMV/DOT Medical Examination
- Class B Permit with PS Endorsements
- Attend an informational meeting (all interested applicants will be invited)
- Training class anticipated to start in October 2026

Hourly Salary (Range 111) Step A: $19.44
