About the role
The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony (RSIC) is a federally recognized tribal government dedicated to the economic and social advancement of its people. This Full-Time Bus Driver/Safety Coordinator position offers an exciting opportunity to engage directly with the community while prioritizing safety.
Responsibilities
- Directly supervise the transportation of children to and from school under the guidance of the Head Start Health/Safety Nutrition Advocate.
- Ensure adherence to public safety rules and internal procedures while maintaining a safe and sanitary environment for the children.
- Assist in the care and education of children, implementing Head Start Performance Standards and Reno-Sparks Indian Colony Policies.
- Conduct safety inspections and train staff on essential safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure a comprehensive approach to health and safety in accordance with Indian Health Services Tribal Health and Safety Code and Child and Adult Care Food Program guidelines.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 21 years of age at time of hire and eligibility for participation in the RSIC Vehicle Insurance Program.
- A valid State of Nevada Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger and "S" endorsements.
- A good driving record verified through a DMV printout.
- Experience writing and updating policies.
- Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, including standing, walking, sitting, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Strong communication skills and ability to maintain confidentiality regarding personal information.
- Sensitivity to diverse cultures and the needs of the Native American community.
- Pass an annual physical examination and TB screening.
- Possess and maintain infant, child, and adult CPR certification, First Aid certification, and a Food Handler’s Certification.
- Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background checks.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and be eligible for participation in the RSIC Vehicle Insurance Program.
- Must possess a valid State of Nevada Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a passenger endorsement and "S" endorsement.
- Must submit a DMV printout with a good driving record prior to date of hire.
- Must understand policies, regulations, and established safety guidelines.
- Must have experience writing and updating policies.
Skills
- Physical stamina to stand, walk, sit, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Strong communication skills to communicate and hear both in person and by telephone.

Pay
Competitive pay range of $16.49 - $21.00 per hour, based on experience.
