About the role

The primary responsibilities of this role include coordinating and conducting maintenance of vehicles, performing daily inspections, managing janitorial tasks, supervising children, and participating in various training programs.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and conduct maintenance of vehicles, including seasonal start-up inspections, routine maintenance, and final inspections.
  • Conduct daily walk-around inspections of vehicles before and after use, and report problems to the Center Manager.
  • Maintain an inventory of janitorial supplies and ensure compliance with the Hazard Communication Program and blood borne pathogens policy.
  • Ensure accountability of children transported by maintaining a list and taking daily attendances.
  • Participate in child safety checks, report concerns to the Center Manager, and ensure no child is left alone on the bus.
  • Serve as a liaison between families and program staff by reporting family information to the appropriate team members.
  • Complete required paperwork, including vehicle operating expenditures and maintenance repairs.
  • Conduct monthly bus evacuation drills, document results, and submit reports to the Center Manager.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the center, including emptying trash, picking up debris, cleaning bathrooms, sweeping/vacuuming, mopping, and waxing floors.
  • Perform monthly upkeep of central air, heating, and cooling systems.
  • Assist with recruitment activities and provide support or T/TA to other locations.
  • Develop bus routes in coordination with Family Services and Center Manager.
  • Transport and supervise children during parent meetings, field trips, and health clinic visits.
  • Assist with serving children with disabilities or special needs according to their Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) or Individualized Education Program (IEP).
  • Participate in training for serving children with disabilities or special needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least 21 years old and hold a valid CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements.
  • Ability to work irregular and flexible hours.
  • Insurable under Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Have a reliable car, valid driver's license, and adequate insurance.
  • Experience in transporting young children is preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred.

Work Environment, Physical, And Sensory Demands

The position involves occasional pushing, handling boxes, bending, reaching, and standing for long hours. Physical demands include frequently standing, walking, sitting, bending, and reaching. Lifting/carrying up to 40 lbs. may be required, and lifting over 40 lbs. requires assistance. Frequent exposure to moderate temperatures, noise levels, and moderate risk of injury from equipment use. Tools and equipment used include phones, computers, fax machines, copy machines, calculators, first aid equipment, fire extinguishers, child safety restraints, basic hand tools, yard tools, floor buffers, and drive buses.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must have a current DOT physical and DOT medical card or complete a DOT physical exam.
  • Must submit to a pre-employment drug/alcohol test.
  • Must complete a TB test screening showing absence of Tuberculosis within 30 days of employment or sooner as required by local/state regulation.
  • Must complete approved SIDS & Shaken Baby Training.
  • Fire Extinguisher Training, Infant/Child CPR, and First Aid must be completed upon hire or prior to transporting children.
  • Subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
