About the District

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the District's curricular and extracurricular programs.
  • Obey all traffic laws, specifically those pertaining to school buses.
  • Observe all mandatory safety regulations for buses, including but not limited to child safety equipment (e.g., car seats, booster seats, safety vests).
  • Maintain discipline when students are on the bus.
  • Report disciplinary issues and concerns to the proper authority.
  • Keep assigned bus clean.
  • Check bus before each operation for mechanical defects.
  • Notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
  • Discharge students only at authorized stops.
  • Exercise responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
  • Transport only authorized students.
  • Report all accidents and complete required reports.
  • Enforce regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.
  • Safely evacuate all passengers in an emergency vehicular situation, including passengers ranging from ages three to twenty-one, in adherence with the procedures outlined in the Transportation Employee Handbook.
  • Perform other associated duties and responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma; preference given to those having a minimum of two years of college.
  • Previous experience with children preferred.
  • Valid Pennsylvania driver's license, School Bus Endorsement, Passenger Endorsement, and Commercial Driver's License or ability to pass all tests to obtain the same.
  • Valid current state driver's license must be maintained at all times.
  • Must meet requirements of DL-502A License Requirement.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and taste or smell.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with the ability to safely evacuate all passengers.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements.
