About the role
Responsible for transporting residents to local shopping and other approved destinations via the community’s passenger bus. This position is considered an essential function to the operation of the Community; consistent attendance is required.
Responsibilities
- Greet residents, prospects, and visitors warmly.
- Conduct routine shopping trips:
- Sign out bus at the start of shift and verify operational condition.
- Pick up passengers on time, following the predetermined route and all traffic laws.
- Assist residents entering and exiting the bus and with groceries or shopping bags.
- Be flexible about safe, practical drop-off and pick-up locations within pre-determined destinations.
- Enforce a no-smoking policy on the bus.
- Return bus to assigned parking area, return keys, and log hours at the end of shift.
- Respond to fire, medical, mechanical, or other emergencies according to community policies and procedures; provide required notifications and log entries.
- Adhere to special requirements for destinations such as museums or concert halls.
- Maintain passenger counts by pickup location and destination.
- Keep bus logbooks current and make appropriate entries.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid State commercial driver’s license, approved by the SLN insurance carrier.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Patient, helpful, and courteous demeanor, especially with elderly and disabled persons.
- Physical ability to walk, bend, stoop, reach, climb stairs, stand for periods of time, and lift or move up to 50 lbs.
Schedule
Hours coincide with community operating hours and may include weekends as necessary. This is a grant-funded position subject to continuing reauthorizations by funding sources.
