Bus Driver

About the role

Daily transportation of children and parent volunteers. Responsible for the daily smooth and safe operation of bus and bus route. Major emphasis is on safety.

Schedule

Preferred schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

Pay

$23.15 hourly wage (entry-level rate; compensation may be adjusted based on experience, education, and qualifications).

Requirements

• Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
• Current Class B California Driver’s License with passenger endorsement.
• Clear DMV printout, current T-01, 02, DL-51 (medical).
• Special Driver’s Certificate (school bus).
• Minimum of 3 years driving a bus with an excellent safety record.
• CPR and First Aid certification (bi-annually renewed).
• Pass physical examination, including tuberculosis screening, on initial hire and annually thereafter.
• Fingerprinted and pass background check.
• Pass pre-employment drug screening.
• Indian preference applies.

Responsibilities

• Maintain proper bus driver license and certification.
• Maintain transportation records as assigned.
• Ensure the safe transportation of each child; within ability, ensure safety of drop-off and pick-up sites. Inform proper authorities of any unsafe conditions.
• Demonstrate genuine care and concern for the children under your care.
• Cultivate and maintain a positive professional working relationship with parents, other family members, and/or child-care givers. Encourage and facilitate regular two-way communication.
• Provide parent education on transportation rules and the need for such rules; work to obtain parent cooperation.
• Participate in Parent Meetings, Events, All Staff Days, Staff Development Days, Kid’s Counts, Policy Council, Field Trips, etc.
• Maintain confidentiality in accordance with agency policy and legal requirements.
• Understand and implement all safety rules, emergency procedures, and established policies.
• As a mandated reporter, identify and report suspected child abuse to the proper authorities following established guidelines.
• Model positive and nurturing interactions with children, parents, and staff as outlined by the NAEYC Developmentally Appropriate Practices.
• Follow the Code of Ethical Conduct established by the NAEYC in interactions with staff, children, parents, and others in the community.
• Recognize the significance of Native American culture and Wintu/Pit River/Yana culture in particular. Seek out community resources or research Native American reference books to find appropriate values and activities to include in the bus route.
• Attend regular staff meetings and cooperate in planning, developing, and implementing program changes and/or modifications. Share information pertinent to each child’s development and the smooth operations of the program.
• Maintain buses, including daily safety checks and cleanliness.
