Bus Driver

Responsibilities

• Safely transport students to and from school and school-sponsored activities.
• Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Maintain student discipline and ensure compliance with district transportation procedures.
• Follow established bus routes, schedules, and safety regulations.
• Report accidents, mechanical concerns, or student incidents promptly.
• Maintain accurate transportation records and required documentation.
• Keep assigned bus clean and in safe operating condition.
• Attend required training sessions and meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma, further education or experience in a related field is a plus.
• A valid Illinois Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) endorsements, or willingness to obtain required licensure and endorsements (paid training and additional endorsement reimbursement is available).
• A valid Illinois School Bus Driver Permit or ability to obtain prior to employment.
• A current DOT physical examination and medical certification.
• A safe driving record and ability to pass all required background checks, drug and alcohol testing, and pre-employment screening.
• Ability to assist special needs students as needed.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain professionalism and positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.

Pay

The starting rate for the 2026-2027 school year is currently $20.43 with IMRF (this is subject to change based on our new negotiated collective bargaining agreement).

Appendix X of the existing MSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement and a summary of 2026 Employee Benefits are attached (our existing 4-year collective bargaining agreement expired at the end of the 2025-2026 school year and we will be negotiating a new agreement that will begin with the 2026-2027 school year).
