Bus Driver

About the role

This position will be one of several bus drivers supporting HCC activities, covering mainly afternoons and evenings on weekdays, with some occasional weekend days. The number of hours per week will vary according to the needs of the College, with Tuesday-Friday hours in most demand.

HCC Bus Drivers report directly to the Director of Facilities and coordinate closely with facilities and various other internal departments.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate a 45-passenger bus on public and private roads.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections.
• Refuel bus.
• Monitor loading, unloading, and transportation of passengers and cargo to ensure safety.
• Understand, implement, and adhere to HCC temporary employee handbook policies and applicable state and federal regulations.
• Coordinate trip details, from dispatch to departure, with group leader or coach.
• Fulfill at least 1 bus assignment during the fall and spring semester.
• Drive in congested areas such as Washington, DC.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Clean driving record.
• Class “B” CDL with “P” endorsement.
• Current DOT physical.
• Previous bus driver experience requested; 3 years or more preferred.
• Experience driving a public school bus preferred.
• Basic knowledge of passenger-carrying regulations.

Skills and Abilities

• Perform required vehicle inspection and fueling.
• Adhere to state and federal regulations.
• Flexible to accommodate varying work hours.
• Effective communication skills.

Working Environment

• Able to bend, reach, and lift approximately 5-10 pounds.
• Able to sit for extended periods of time.
