Essential Duties
- Obeys all traffic laws.
- Copes with stressful situations.
- Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
- Maintains discipline and order with students while on the bus and at their bus stops.
- Uses department discipline ladder to report discipline issues to proper authority.
- Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
- Keeps assigned bus clean and fueled.
- Strives to maintain assigned schedule.
- Performs complete daily pre and post trip inspections of assigned vehicle(s) including completion of appropriate documentation.
- Transports students while driving in a safe manner at all times.
- Notifies the Coordinator of Transportation in case of mechanical failure, tardiness, or absenteeism by the designated time.
- Discharges students only at authorized stops.
- Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
- Transports only authorized students, coaches, teachers and chaperones.
- Reports all accidents as soon as practical and completes required reports.
- Ensures that regulations for student bus responsibilities are followed.
- Develops and maintains accurate LEFT/RIGHT and/or route sheets that are clear for sub use.
- Conducts appropriate school bus evacuation and safety training.
- Attends all mandatory departmental in-service meetings.
- Complies with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the storage, use and disposal of trash, rubbish, waste and hazardous material [OSHA].
- Complies with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the maintenance, repair and operation of equipment and machines [OSHA].
- Ensures the safety of student.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships.
- Exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgement.
- Maintains confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or training and experience that are considered equivalent.
- At least 21 years of age with a minimum of two years of driving experience.
- Mets all the physical, mental and moral requirements established by federal rule, state laws and Chapter 3301-83 of Ohio Administrative Code.
- Being physically qualified (Rule 3301-83-07 of Ohio Administrative Code).
- Ohio School Bus Driver’s license, Class B-SP Endorsement.
- Commercial Driver’s License.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact in a professional manner.
- Appropriately dressed, neat and clean appearance.
- Physical capability of appropriately lifting and managing preschool and students with special needs when necessary.
Terms of Employment
Substitute status through training process.
Salary
$21.23/HR.
