Bus Driver
About the role
The City of Wausau is hiring Part-Time Bus Drivers for Metro Ride. If you're a safe, dependable driver who enjoys working with people, this could be a great opportunity to join public transit. You do not need a CDL or previous bus-driving experience to apply. Metro Ride provides paid training, including the training needed to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake and passenger endorsements. Part-time Bus Operators may also have the opportunity to move into full-time positions by seniority as vacancies occur.
Schedule
This regular part-time position works 20 hours per week. During the school year, drivers work Monday through Friday from 6:40–8:40 a.m. and 2:15–4:15 p.m. Summer hours are available and flexible, with 20 hours per week scheduled as five consecutive hours per day, four days per week.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate Metro Ride buses along assigned routes
- Assist passengers
- Provide route and schedule information
- Perform vehicle inspections
- Operate transit equipment
- Help provide safe and reliable transportation to the Wausau community
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record
Qualifications
- Experience driving larger vehicles is helpful, but not required
- Physical demands require those typically necessary to operate the transit vehicle, including but not limited to: sitting for long periods, walking, constant arm movement, frequent turning of the head and neck while driving, as well as the ability to secure mobility devices and occasionally move (push/pull) up to 250 pounds
- This is a safety sensitive position and will be subject to random drug and/or alcohol testing
