About the role

ADVOCAP’s Head Start program is accepting applications for Substitute Bus Drivers at our Fond du Lac Head Start Center. The position begins mid-August. ADVOCAP’s Head Start program prepares children ages 3-5 with quality early childhood education in Fond du Lac and Green Lake counties, while helping families reach financial, career, and educational goals.

This role requires a welcoming and friendly personality to ensure comfort and alignment with our mission of creating opportunities for people and communities to reduce poverty and increase self-sufficiency. The position involves providing safe transportation by driving a minibus for children ages 3-5 to and from various locations in the Fond du Lac area, as well as assisting in other program areas between driving duties.

Responsibilities

  • Complete necessary documentation and record keeping as required by supervisor and Head Start regulations.
  • Follow transportation regulations enacted by Head Start, State, and Federal Transportation Boards concerning the health and safety of children.
  • Assist in the preparation of bus routes and adhere to fixed routes.
  • Provide transportation for educational, medical field trips, and other special assignment trips.
  • Receive and make phone calls to parents as needed.
  • Monitor the safe operation and cleanliness of the bus.
  • Communicate positively and effectively with children, families, and staff.
  • Ensure that no one enters the bus other than yourself, the bus monitor, and the children.
  • Enforce conduct and safety rules on the bus.
  • Maintain promptness and ensure availability to work early morning, later evening hours, and occasional Fridays and weekends.

Requirements

  • Bus endorsement required at time of hire or to be obtained within 6 weeks of hire.
  • High school degree or GED/HSED and 12–18 months of previous related work experience.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule with possibly varying duties at various locations in the Fond du Lac area.
  • Completion of internal training modules, skill-level programs, or other required training.
  • Possess or obtain within the first 90 days of employment a CDL with bus endorsement.
  • 50%+ of time on the job spent traveling using an Agency and/or personal vehicle.
  • Must pass driving criteria per Agency insurance carrier and DOT regulations to be hired and maintain employment.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • CPR certified or willing to obtain certification.
  • Pass physical, TB, and drug screenings, as well as a comprehensive background check.
  • Reliable attendance and a professional work ethic.
