About the role
The Bus Assistant supports student transportation services, focusing on assisting special education students during transport to and from school and special activities. Responsibilities include handling emergencies, ensuring safe boarding and unloading, monitoring special needs students, conducting safety inspections, and reporting incidents.
Responsibilities
- Assists bus driver in emergency situations
- Assists special education students and other passengers in loading and unloading safely
- Maintains seat chart of riders
- Maintains bus in a safe and sanitary condition
- Conducts monthly emergency evacuation drills
- Completes walk-throughs to check for students left behind
- Instructs students on rules and regulations
- Ensures safety and well-being of students and equipment
- Attends meetings and training sessions
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- One year of related experience
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Maine State CHRC authorization ($70 cost)
Qualifications
- Ability to adhere to safety practices and administer first aid
- Knowledge of operating equipment for transporting special needs students
- Clear communication skills
- Ability to work outside regular business hours
- Knowledge of health standards and regulations
