Bus Assistant

Responsibilities

• Aid students in entering or exiting the bus safely.
• Show the highest ethical standards and personal integrity; report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior to a supervisor or manager.
• Secure students using seat belts, car seats, or wheelchair restraints as needed.
• Maintain safety and student conduct rules during transportation.
• Document and report any violations or concerns to the appropriate authority.
• Assist in vehicle evacuation in case of emergencies.
• Ensure students take their belongings with them when leaving the bus.
• Help the driver keep the vehicle clean and presentable.
• Complete required paperwork and submit it promptly.
• Behave professionally and promote company goodwill.
• Be punctual and perform duties safely.
• Attend all assigned training, safety meetings, and in-service meetings.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old; 19 years old for New York School Bus Assistants.
• Meet physical and medical requirements.
• Satisfy all training requirements and attend safety meetings and in-service meetings.
• Show attention to detail and dexterity to handle various restraints and equipment.
• Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Be able to lift and assist students as necessary.

Pay, Benefits & Schedule

Pay range for routed bus monitors is $19.50 per hour. Paid training is also available at $19.50 per hour. Employees are eligible for Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act (PLAWA).
