Bus Assistant
Responsibilities
- Aid students in entering or exiting the bus safely.
- Show the highest ethical standards and personal integrity; report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior to a supervisor or manager.
- Secure students using seat belts, car seats, or wheelchair restraints as needed.
- Maintain safety and student conduct rules during transportation.
- Document and report any violations or concerns to the appropriate authority.
- In case of emergency, assist with the evacuation of passengers.
- Absorb and assist students in taking their belongings when leaving the bus.
- Keep the assigned vehicle clean and presentable.
- Complete and submit required paperwork promptly.
- Behave professionally and display good moral character at all times.
- Report to duty on time and perform all tasks safely.
- Attend all assigned training, safety meetings, and in-service meetings.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old; 19 years old in New York for School Bus Assistants.
- Meet physical and medical requirements.
- Satisfactorily complete and pass all training and attend safety meetings and in-service meetings.
- Have a high degree of attention to detail and dexterity to safely use various restraints.
- Be able to relate to and work well with children.
- Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lift and assist students when necessary.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.
Pay, Benefits & Schedule
Pay range for Bus Assistants is $17.69 per hour. Paid training is also available at $17.69 per hour. Employees are eligible for Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act (PLAWA).
