Responsibilities
- Aid students in entering or exiting the bus in a safe manner.
- Show the highest ethical standards and personal integrity; report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior to a supervisor or manager.
- Secure students using seat belts, car seats, or wheelchair restraints as needed.
- Maintain vigilance over passengers to ensure compliance with safety regulations and student conduct rules.
- Communicate and enforce discipline according to company policy.
- Document and report any violations or misconduct to the appropriate authority.
- In case of emergency, assist in the evacuation of passengers and ensure children take their belongings.
- Keep the bus interior clean and presentable.
- Complete required paperwork and submit it promptly.
- Behave professionally and display good moral character at all times.
- Arrive on time and perform duties safely.
- Attend all assigned training, safety meetings, and in-service meetings.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old; for New York School Bus Assistants, must be at least 19 years old.
- Meet physical and medical requirements.
- Pass all training and attend safety meetings and in-service meetings to remain qualified.
- Show attention to detail and possess considerable dexterity to safely use various restraints and secure wheelchairs.
- Be able to relate to and work well with children.
- Display professionalism and diplomacy when interacting with students, colleagues, parents, and school personnel.
- Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be capable of lifting and assisting students as necessary.
