About the role
This is the first level in the series. Incumbents are responsible for monitoring and securing special needs and other students, as well as bus equipment use and student behavior and safety.
Responsibilities
- Ensures the safe loading and unloading of students to and from destinations, including operation of specialized equipment for students with special needs, such as car seats, wheelchairs, seat belts, lifts, and other applicable equipment.
- Monitors daily school bus activities to ensure proper student conduct and adherence to disciplinary controls.
- Performs routine cleaning and bus maintenance, including attending to spills and cleaning body fluids.
- Responds to and resolves inquiries or concerns from parents with compassion and understanding.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or G.E.D., or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job.
Licensing Requirements
- Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR Certifications within 30 days of employment.
- Ability to complete wheelchair and special needs handling training.
- Valid Department of Public Safety (DPS) Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPCC).

Physical Requirements
- Positions typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
- Medium Work: Exerting up to 125 pounds of force for testing, up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Incumbents may be subjected to fumes, odors, and extreme temperatures.
Pay
Return-to-work retirees will have an hourly rate approximately 9% lower than listed without falling below minimum wage.
