This position will be on site at our facility located in Eastland, Texas. Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain the overall health, condition, and well-being of bulls
- Administer vaccinations, medications, and parasite control in accordance with veterinary protocols
- Operate and safely utilize cattle handling equipment, including squeeze chute and alley systems
- Identify and respond promptly to signs of illness, injury, lameness, or stress
- Assist with veterinary visits, diagnostics, breeding soundness exams (BSEs), and treatment plans
- Maintain accurate health and treatment records
- Prepare and deliver feed rations using a TMR (Total Mixed Ration) mixer wagon
- Monitor feed intake and adjust rations based on body condition, age, and development goals
- Maintain feed inventory and ensure proper storage and quality control
- Manage bulls through various development stages, ensuring appropriate growth, conditioning, and readiness for sale or breeding
- Evaluate body condition, structural soundness, and overall performance
- Assist in preparation for sales, shows, or breeding programs (including grooming and presentation)
- Ensure facilities are safe, clean, and conducive to animal health
- Operate ranch equipment such as tractors, loaders, and feed trucks
- Safely handle bulls in all environments, understanding behavior and risk factors associated with high-value livestock
- Follow all safety protocols to protect employees, animals, and property
- Assist with breeding program logistics, including semen testing and collection coordination (if applicable)
- Monitor environmental conditions and adjust care practices accordingly (heat, cold, drought, etc.)
- Collaborate with team members and contribute to overall ranch operations
- Support traceability, registration, and compliance with industry standards and regulations
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 3+ years of hands-on cattle experience, with a strong preference for high-end/seedstock cattle programs
- Working knowledge of cattle health protocols, vaccinations, and low-stress handling techniques
- Experience operating a TMR mixer wagon and understanding of cattle nutrition principles
- Proficiency in using cattle handling equipment, including squeeze chute systems
- Ability to identify health and structural issues in cattle
- Basic mechanical skills and experience operating ranch equipment
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Working Conditions
- Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting, standing (occasionally) for long periods of time
- The essential duties of this position require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying
- Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; dust, fumes, and gases; and all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
- Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection and hard hats when needed
- React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet
- Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions
- Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions
- Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed
- Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers
