About the role
Prepare batches of gravy ingredients and/or super-micros for the kitchen per approved formulas for the production run.
Responsibilities
- Read and accurately interpret batching sheets and other production documents to determine the order and quantity of ingredients.
- Add super-micros (pre-weighed by Quality Assurance personnel) as referenced on batching sheets to complete batching requirements.
- Stage ingredients to be batched.
- Clean totes to contain the batches.
- Record production-related data accurately, including:
- Lot numbers and supplier for each ingredient on batch sheets
- Batching date code on ingredient tags
- Plan number for which gravy is intended
- Inspect each ingredient bag as it is being dumped, checking for:
- Condition of bag
- Foreign material
- Grain lumps
- Off color, off odor, or infestation
- Expired materials
- Perform batching by weighing each ingredient per the card into tote, labeling tote, and staging tote.
- Ensure the operator stays 15 batches ahead according to the production schedule.
- Conduct general cleaning of area including maintenance of gravy room, filtration system, and dry ingredient area in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Vacuum or wipe all totes clean prior to batching gravies.
- Cover unused ingredients to prevent contamination; tape opened bags shut, dating and initialing each one.
- Participate as a member of the Team in ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies; coordinate work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members.
- Attend appropriate team meetings.
- Foster strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues (e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes); quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bring them to the attention of the team leader, work with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues, and actively look for ways to achieve synergy within the larger organization.
- Maintain familiarity with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies) and understand this position's role in supporting these systems, including considering the impact of individual actions and communicating concerns and improvement ideas.
- Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
Qualifications
- Experience within a manufacturing/process environment with knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Manufacturing or warehouse industry experience preferred.
- Machine Operation technical experience preferred.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Physical requirements
- Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk.
- Must be able to physically move bags of ingredients and totes weighing 40–60 pounds.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required: Steel toed shoes, Ear Plugs, Hair Net, Safety glasses.
