About the role

In this position, you will help protect school property by monitoring buildings and grounds, enforcing parking and traffic regulations, conducting vehicle and foot patrols, and responding to security concerns. You'll also serve as a valuable resource by assisting visitors, providing security escorts, administering first aid when needed, and supporting daily operations through dispatching and recordkeeping.

Responsibilities

• Enforce regulations relating to parking and traffic control; direct traffic on state property and issue tickets for violations.
• Provide information and assistance to visitors; guard entrances and exits to prevent trespass, vandalism, theft, and other violations.
• Perform routine vehicle and foot patrol duty; monitor security and alarm systems to detect theft and other criminal acts.
• Provide security escorts and first aid when necessary.
• Perform dispatching and recordkeeping functions at a desk post.
• Maintain order among students and assist in searching for missing individuals.
• Assist in fire prevention and fire fighting activities.
• Perform related duties as required.

Requirements

• Any experience or training which provides the following skills and abilities:
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to think and act quickly in an emergency with judgment and discretion
• Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience working in the field of security
  • Experience working security in a high school
  • Experience performing foot patrol duty within a school
  • Experience working at a post or desk checking in visitors using a security database
  • Experience providing escorts within a school
• Must possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license (if required).
• May be required to obtain and maintain a Standard First Aid Certificate and/or CPR certification.
• Must pass a thorough background investigation and physical examination (if required).
• Must have general good health, be free from any disease or injury which would impair health or usefulness, and possess sufficient physical strength, stamina, agility, endurance, and visual and auditory acuity.

Working Conditions

• May be exposed to outdoor working conditions and attendant discomforts.
• Prolonged periods of walking and standing while on foot patrol and/or guard duty.
• Some danger of injury in performing the duties of the class.

Schedule

Part-time (35 hours per week), first shift: Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. This is a 10-month position, returning to work once school resumes after the summer break.
