Building Technology Systems - Senior Consultant
About the role
WSP is seeking an experienced Building Technology Systems – Senior Consultant specializing in Structured Cabling, Electronic Security Systems, or Audiovisual design to join our Building Technology Systems team in the Northeast Region. Locations include New York, NY; Newark, NJ; Philadelphia, PA; and Boston, MA. This role supports and collaborates closely with Lead Consultants and project teams in the design, coordination, and construction administration of building technology systems across a wide range of projects.
This is a hybrid role requiring in-office presence approximately 1–2 days per week, with travel as needed to support client, project, and business needs.
Your Impact
- Develop and coordinate designs for Structured Cabling, Electronic Security, or Audiovisual systems, including telecommunications infrastructure, pathways, spaces, and associated technology system components.
- Contribute as part of a larger team to deliver projects from inception to completion.
- Coordinate with clients to gather and document system and design requirements.
- Create design narratives and coordinated construction documents (drawings and CSI specifications).
- Coordinate and participate in project meetings with clients, stakeholders, and design teams, both locally and nationally.
- Review and respond to technology system submittals and RFIs using industry-standard digital platforms (Procore, Newforma, ACC, etc.).
- Perform site surveys, field observations, and prepare reports documenting existing conditions, construction progress, and project compliance.
- Coordinate the integration of building technology systems with other building systems.
- Provide guidance and training to entry-level professionals.
- Support business development and client relationship activities through participation in proposals, presentations, and client engagements as needed.
Responsibilities
- Manage assigned tasks and deliverables while meeting project schedules, quality standards, and client expectations.
- Perform construction administration activities, including field observations, site quality reviews, contractor coordination, and participation in construction progress meetings.
- Ensure designs comply with local and national codes and industry standards (IBC, NFPA, BICSI, ANSI/EIA/TIA, AVIXA, ADA).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, Information Technology, Telecommunications, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience designing building technology systems.
- 5–7+ years of experience designing Structured Cabling, Electronic Security, Audiovisual, or other building technology systems within the AEC consulting, engineering, or technology infrastructure industry.
- Ability to work independently on small to medium-sized projects and support Lead Consultants on larger, more complex assignments.
- Well-developed analytical, problem-solving, and design skills in Structured Cabling, Electronic Security Systems, and Audiovisual Systems.
- Understanding of local and national codes and industry standards (IBC, NFPA, BICSI, ANSI/EIA/TIA, AVIXA, ADA).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to organize and present design information confidently and professionally with clients, architects, and building owners, including federal and public sector clients.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam Revu preferred.
- Working knowledge of BIM coordination processes and ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary design teams.

- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security clearance as required for certain client projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant industry certifications or active pursuit thereof, including BICSI RCDD, ASIS CPP/PSP, and AVIXA CTS-D.

Pay
Expected Salary (all locations): $107,500 – $145,000. WSP USA reserves the right to adjust compensation based on education, experience, internal equity, and specific geographic location.
