About the role

This Opportunity WSP USA Buildings, Inc., an award-winning and innovative multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm, is looking for a Building Technology Systems Lead Consultant in Denver, CO or Boulder, CO.

Responsibilities

  • Provides high level technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, design, development, building, testing, and inspecting of smart building projects in the public and private sector.
  • Researches, designs, concept develops, plans, installs, operates, maintains, and optimally integrates intelligent technologies using a converged network approach, and systems that make predictive and automated decisions impacting building capabilities including access control, acoustics, audio systems, security, and video surveillance.
  • Substantiates reports, documentation, and decisions regarding equipment, installation, integration, and operation specifications.
  • Ensures responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality for building inhabitants.
  • Guides data collection, compilation, and analysis from physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, flow diagrams, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for project development, design, and installation.
  • Applies high-level building technology techniques and processes to identify improvements for various project work including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, integration, installation, and operation.
  • Conducts inspections and investigations on various aspects of the installation and design of equipment, facilities, and systems.
  • Develops construction and installation plans, specifications, and cost estimates; preparing phasing plans and updating technology layout plans that require coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
  • Manages building technology design, installation, and integration projects, including renovation, new builds, operating specifications, materials and equipment, phasing, and installation plans.
  • Develops and incorporates advanced technologies, monitoring devices, building materials, modeling techniques, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to account for the proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems; implementing future-ready solutions with smart building technology design standards.
  • Oversees and monitors cross-functional teams to execute project work on mid-level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, technical calculations, permit applications, schematics, construction, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
  • Covers site characteristics and provides technical assistance on various design, installation, and integration issues relating to creating state-of-the-art smart buildings using a converged network approach, AV/telecommunications, and intelligent systems that make predictive and automated decisions impacting building capabilities, safety, and security.
  • Prepares data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, cross-sections, technical drawings, spreadsheets, and other 2D/3D illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of more complex data, findings, or analyses.
  • Prepares comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, concepts, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or installation issues or opportunities.
  • Analyzes, evaluates, and interprets data obtained during site assessments, offering input with developing action plans for moderate- to high-level risk installation, equipment operations, and/or mitigation activities.
  • Prepares and implements site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Interacts with any applicable regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
  • Collaborates with professionals, other engineers, inspectors, project control, and technicians on public and privately-funded improvement and development projects, as well as proposal and business development opportunities.
  • Remains current in latest building technology techniques and practices.
  • Exercises responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adheres to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Possess a four-year degree (B.S. in engineering is preferred) or equivalent combination of technical degree and related work experience designing technology systems for buildings.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post-education experience in an AV and Telecommunications discipline with prior smart building technology design experience.
  • Proficient with building technology principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues.
  • Extensive knowledge of smart building design.
  • Experience with building planning, design, and installation management; including active involvement in a variety of renovation and new design projects.
  • Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant building technology installation and/or construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of building technology principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate standards or regulations.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation, load calculations, discipline-specific design software (i.e., Revit, AutoCAD, CAM), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, load calculations, computations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • Essential or enhancing professional licensure/certification.
