About the Role

We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Building Official to join our team of professionals. This position offers great opportunity for dynamic, motivated self-starters to work on a variety of work assignments. Responsibilities

  • Responsible for meeting all state and locally mandated code compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of building codes, policies, and procedures to the day-to-day functions of the building department.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with our clients in this area and ensure the highest level of customer service.
  • Responsible for attending department and community meetings as required by the client.
  • Perform plan reviews for both commercial and residential projects in all trades.
  • Perform inspection support as needed.
  • Supervise building department staff.

Requirements

  • OH Commercial Building Official (CBO) (Lvl 5) OR Comprehensive Code Official (CCO) (Lvl 6) certification required.
  • OH Plans Examiner certification is required.
  • Plumbing and/or electrical specializations are a plus.
  • Level 2 (RLC-REI) or Level 3 (RLC – ESI) certification.
  • Level 2 (RLC – RPI) or Level 3 (RLC -PI) certification.
  • Additional OH certifications are a plus.
  • Inspection experience preferred.
  • Client and team management experience in a building department setting preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.

Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of local building code regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Solid computer skills and experience using MS Office programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and display independent judgment.
  • Self-directed and self-motivated.

Physical Requirements

Mobility & Movement

  • Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, or kneeling to conduct inspections.
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, or unfinished stairways to access roofs, attics, crawl spaces, and other elevated or confined areas.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving objects up to 25–50 pounds (e.g., inspection tools, plans, or small equipment).

Vision & Hearing

  • Visual acuity sufficient to read construction plans, technical documents, and observe construction details.
  • Ability to detect safety hazards and defects through visual and auditory inspection.
  • Hearing sufficient to communicate with contractors, workers, and the public in noisy environments.

Manual Dexterity

  • Use of hands and fingers to handle tools, operate inspection equipment, and use computers/tablets for reporting.

Work Environment

  • Work performed in both office and field settings.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) and construction site environments (noise, dust, uneven terrain).
  • Frequent driving between inspection sites and company locations within a region.
