About the role
Inspect and analyze the condition of all buildings and installed equipment maintained by Facilities Management. Perform preventative maintenance on mechanical/electrical equipment, including HVAC systems, boiler systems, sump pumps, etc. Assist with other duties related to operations, maintenance, and renovations to buildings and equipment, such as light-duty carpentry, painting, electrical, and other miscellaneous repair and maintenance activities. Respond to emergency and urgent work.
- Regular exposure to disagreeable conditions such as extreme temperature changes, odors, loud noises, cramped spaces, etc.
- Stand, lift, bend, stoop, lift above shoulders, and carry 50 lbs or more.
- Use appropriate PPE, gloves, safety glasses, etc., provided for use in the workplace.
Work Schedule
Monday through Friday, 4 PM-12 AM with occasional evenings and weekends. Appointment Length: Regular Continuous/Until Further Notice.
Hiring Range
$16.00 - $25.00 (contingent upon available funding) hourly.

Job Requirements
- High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
- Building Maintenance Mechanic I - High School/GED with two years of prior work experience in the building trade or the equivalent of 600 hours of Vocational/Technical education in a related building trade field.
- Building Maintenance Mechanic II - High School/GED with three years of prior successful work experience in the building trade and/or the equivalent of 600 hours of Vocational/Technical education in a related building trade field, plus one year of prior successful work experience in a building trade.
- Building Maintenance Mechanic III - High School/GED with four years of prior successful work experience in a building trade and/or the equivalent of 600 hours of Vocational/Technical education in a related building trade field, plus two years of prior successful work experience in a building trade.
Department of Labor Inspections
May be asked to inspect water heaters for Department of Labor inspections.
Required Qualifications
- A valid driver’s license.
- A valid driver’s license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned.
- Building Maintenance Mechanic III will require an apprentice license in mechanical, electrical, or plumbing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational/Technical Three to five years of experience in a building trade, and/or the equivalent of 600 hours of Vocational/Technical education in a related building trade field, with additional one to five years prior related work experience.
- Building Maintenance Mechanic II prefers an apprentice license for HVAC, Plumbing, or Electrical.
- Building Maintenance Mechanic III prefers a journeyman license for HVAC, Plumbing, or Electrical.
Skills, Proficiencies, And/or Knowledge
- Knowledge of State and Federal Mechanical and Electrical Codes.
- Knowledge of Safety Regulations.
- Broad knowledge of construction and maintenance.
- Ability to access tight spaces to perform the job, pass a respirator fit test, and wear a full face respirator for extended periods.
- Ability to work in a squat position or on knees for extended periods.
- Ability to become proficient in the use of the “AIM” Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology.
- The ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.
- Must work safely and promote a safe environment.
