About the role
A full-time (40-hour per week) Building Maintenance team member ensures the repair, security, safety, and support of McWane Science Center’s personnel, guests, structures, and properties.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily preventive maintenance and upkeep of the entire facility and property
- Set up and break down tables, chairs, and other event equipment
- Handle incoming shipments of materials and packages
- Facilitate safety and evacuation procedures
- Assist all other departments as needed
Schedule
Generally scheduled Tuesday through Saturday from 6:30 AM until 3:30 PM. Shift times may vary depending on business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a role requiring good judgment and responsibility for individuals and property
- General mechanical aptitude
- Experience in plumbing, painting, drywall repair, minor electrical, and minor HVAC
- CPR certified or willing/able to become certified
- Dependable with the ability to work flexible hours, including nights and holidays
- Valid Driver License with acceptable annual motor vehicle reports
- Verification of valid minimum liability insurance as required by State law
- Honesty, integrity, and strong organizational skills
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
- At least 18 years of age
Physical Requirements
- Capable of lifting moderately heavy objects (tables, desks, chairs, etc.) on a regular basis
- Able to quickly assess situations and use good judgment in emergencies, visitor complaints, theft, etc.
- Able to access any area of the museum quickly, including stairs, catwalks, and ladders
- Able to open and close circuit breaker boxes, flip breakers, and set/reset alarms
- Able to climb 8–10 ladders for dusting, pulling pins, and manipulating devices, as well as operate an electric lifting device
- Able to pull the pin on a fire extinguisher and use it effectively
- Able to communicate clearly using portable radios and the Public Address system
- Able to stand, walk, and climb steps for extended periods
