Building Maintenance

About the role

A full-time (40-hour per week) Building Maintenance team member ensures the repair, security, safety, and support of McWane Science Center’s personnel, guests, structures, and properties.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily preventive maintenance and upkeep of the entire facility and property
• Set up and break down tables, chairs, and other event equipment
• Handle incoming shipments of materials and packages
• Facilitate safety and evacuation procedures
• Assist all other departments as needed

Schedule

Generally scheduled Tuesday through Saturday from 6:30 AM until 3:30 PM. Shift times may vary depending on business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a role requiring good judgment and responsibility for individuals and property
• General mechanical aptitude
• Experience in plumbing, painting, drywall repair, minor electrical, and minor HVAC
• CPR certified or willing/able to become certified
• Dependable with the ability to work flexible hours, including nights and holidays
• Valid Driver License with acceptable annual motor vehicle reports
• Verification of valid minimum liability insurance as required by State law
• Honesty, integrity, and strong organizational skills
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
• At least 18 years of age

Physical Requirements

• Capable of lifting moderately heavy objects (tables, desks, chairs, etc.) on a regular basis
• Able to quickly assess situations and use good judgment in emergencies, visitor complaints, theft, etc.
• Able to access any area of the museum quickly, including stairs, catwalks, and ladders
• Able to open and close circuit breaker boxes, flip breakers, and set/reset alarms
• Able to climb 8–10 ladders for dusting, pulling pins, and manipulating devices, as well as operate an electric lifting device
• Able to pull the pin on a fire extinguisher and use it effectively
• Able to communicate clearly using portable radios and the Public Address system
• Able to stand, walk, and climb steps for extended periods
