Responsibilities
- Inspects buildings for fire and life safety and fire protection systems to determine their compliance with local or international building codes (commercial, industrial, residential, and hospitality sectors).
- Evaluates fire suppression, fire detection, and alarm systems.
- Reads and interprets building codes, technical manuals, drawings, instructions, and specifications.
- Identifies, records, and reports all deviations using provided tools.
- Travels to meet and communicate with building owners and managers regarding codes, inspection procedures, and compliance issues; responds to questions, complaints, and information requests; explains policies, procedures, ordinances, and codes.
- Follows up to verify corrections of violations and takes appropriate action to ensure compliance.
- Maintains current knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, and standards; reviews new and updated codes; stays aware of new methods, materials, trends, and advances in the profession through professional literature, affiliations, seminars, workshops, and training.
- Adheres to high ethical and safety compliance standards, business integrity, and UL Code of Conduct, including physical and digital security practices.
- Performs other duties as directed.
Requirements
- University degree (equivalent to Associate’s degree) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Fire Safety Engineering preferred; related discipline plus generally five years’ experience as an inspector, building contractor, engineer, or other building-related trade.
- ICC Combo Commercial Inspector certification.
- Certified Electrical Plans Examiner.
- Ability to interpret building codes and identify non-compliant installations.
- Excellent verbal communication skills with customers.
- Strong computer skills.
Home-based position; candidate preferred to be located near an airport due to travel requirements.
Pay
Estimated salary range for this position is $85,000 to $95,000, based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical location. Eligible for annual bonus with a target payout of 5% of base salary.
