Responsibilities

  • Inspects buildings for fire and life safety and fire protection systems to determine compliance with local or international building codes across Commercial, Industrial, Residential, and Hospitality sectors.
  • Evaluates fire protection systems including fire suppression, detection, and alarm systems.
  • Reads and interprets building codes, technical manuals, drawings, instructions, and specifications.
  • Identifies, records, and reports all deviations using provided tools.
  • Travels to meet and communicate with building owners and managers regarding codes, inspection procedures, and compliance issues; responds to questions, complaints, and requests for information; explains policies, procedures, ordinances, and codes.
  • Follows up to verify corrections of violations and takes appropriate action to ensure compliance.
  • Maintains comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, and standards; reviews new codes and changes to existing codes; stays aware of new methods, materials, trends, and advances in the profession through professional literature, affiliations, seminars, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Adheres to high ethical and safety compliance standards, business integrity, and UL Code of Conduct, including physical and digital security practices.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

Requirements

  • University Degree (equivalent to an Associate’s degree) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Fire Safety Engineering preferred; related discipline plus generally five years’ experience as an inspector, building contractor, engineer, or other building-related trades.
  • ICC Combo Commercial Inspector certification.
  • Certified Electrical Plans Examiner.
  • Knowledge to interpret building codes and ability to identify non-compliant installations.
  • Good verbal communication skills with customers.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Home-based position; candidate preferred to be located close to an airport due to travel requirements.

  • Estimated salary range: $85,000 to $105,000, based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical location.
  • Eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 5% of base salary.
