About the role
The Building Inspector position ensures compliance with laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations relating to the construction, alteration, movement, enlargement, replacement, repair, equipment, use and occupancy, location, removal, and maintenance of residential and commercial buildings and structures.
Responsibilities
- Makes inspections of residential and commercial buildings and structures, or any appurtenances connected or attached to such buildings or structures in the course of construction for the purposes of ensuring compliance with laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations.
- Enforces the Cleveland Housing, Building, and Zoning Codes as well as the Ohio Building and Residential Codes.
- Performs related duties as required that pertain to enforcement of the Cleveland Housing, Building, and Zoning Codes as well as the Ohio Building and Residential Codes.
Requirements
- A High School Diploma or GED is required.
- A valid State of Ohio Driver's License is required.
- A State of Ohio Board of Building Standards (OBBS) certification as a Building Inspector and OBBS certification as a Residential Building Inspector are required.
- Must have and maintain certifications throughout employment.
Qualifications
- Three years of full time paid experience as a construction contractor or supervisor for non-residential buildings or structures within the scope of groups regulated by the rules of the board.
- Three years of full time paid experience as a skilled tradesman for work subject to inspection under a model building code organization or a code adopted for non-residential buildings or structures within the scope of groups regulated by the rules of the board, or experience as specified in section 103.3.3(2).
- Successful completion of a trainee program pursuant to section 103.3.9 of the Ohio Building Code.
