Building Group - Field Engineer I
About the Role
Assists the Project Engineer with being the technical source of information for the project. Responds to questions about drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and change orders. Responsible for assisting in writing change orders, RFIs, meeting minutes, and reviewing submittals. Maintains an effective and professional working relationship with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
This position includes three 'steps' (I, II, and Senior), which provide for a progression of skill and experience. Step I is the entry-level for individuals with a minimum of experience in this position.
Responsibilities
- Assists Project Engineer in developing and maintaining as-built drawings and other work tasks.
- Assists with or reviews and processes submittals, change orders, RFIs, and budget forecasting.
- Ensures the timely and appropriate generation, collection, distribution, storage, retrieval, and ultimate disposition of meeting agendas, RFIs, and daily reports.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the project management plan (PMP) and supports its execution.
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the change management process and performs project scope activities.
- Supports the project team to ensure the work needed to complete the project successfully.
- Ensures the administration of the project quality management plan and reinforces a culture of safety throughout the project.
- May assist in the calculation of daily production rates and unit costs for self-performed work.
- Participates in risk management, including identification, analysis, response planning, and monitoring and control on a project.
- Demonstrates competency in understanding environmental control processes for the project and takes corrective actions when necessary.
- May oversee/manage BIM (Building Information Modeling) coordination between subcontractors and designers.
- May be responsible for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification documentation and submittal.
- May create and update Digital Record Drawings (ORD).
- May provide lines, grades, and layout as required for the project while maintaining an organized logbook.
- May maintain accurate quantity logs and report quantities in compliance with the cost control manual.
- Performs elements of budgeting and controlling costs to complete the project within the approved budget.
- Demonstrates business acumen within area of responsibility.
- Provides support to superintendents required for the execution of the work and assists in resolving field problems as necessary.
Requirements
- Ability to assume responsibility, interface, and communicate with others is essential.
- Entry-level position that normally requires a four-year construction-related degree or equivalent technical/field experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).
- May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
- May stoop, kneel, or bend on an occasional basis.
- May use telephone, computer system, email, or other electronic devices on a limited basis to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors.
- Must comply with all safety standards and procedures.
- Occasionally climbs stairs, ladders, etc.
- Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry, or feel objects on a frequent basis.
- Will interact with people frequently during a shift/workday.
- Will lift, push, or pull objects on an occasional basis.
- Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift/workday.
Safety-Sensitive designation includes tasks that could affect the safety and health of the employee or others, such as operating equipment, handling hazardous materials, or working at heights.
Pay
Pay Range: $50,000–$100,000, based on experience.
