Location: Emeryville, CA (5995 Horton St) – in-person, Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM. Assignment covers a medical leave with possible 1-year extension and potential conversion to full-time employment.
About the Role
As a Building Engineer, you will monitor, maintain, and repair building systems—plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, heating, cooling—and ensure all operations comply with codes, safety directives, and energy-efficiency standards. You’ll work across two laboratory research buildings in a client-facing role, balancing independent tasks with collaboration under the chief engineer.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and repairs on mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, fire/life-safety, and control systems.
- Maintain facility and building systems to applicable standards.
- Comply with all codes, regulations, and safety directives.
- Manage an energy-efficiency program to optimize system performance.
- Assist in implementing a preventive maintenance program to extend equipment lifespan.
- Conduct emergency repairs as needed.
- Follow safe storage, usage, and disposal protocols for hazardous materials.
- Maintain a clean and safe workplace.
- Inspect building systems (fire alarms, HVAC, plumbing) to ensure operational design capabilities.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of standard principles to solve complex problems and mentor others.
- Lead by example, aligning actions with company values and fostering consensus.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with 1–2 years of related experience (or equivalent combination of experience and education).
- Universal CFC certification preferred; additional certifications/licenses as required by local/state jurisdictions.
- Prior shift management or supervisory experience preferred.
- Physical ability to stoop, stand, walk, climb stairs/ladders, and lift/carry 50+ lbs.
- Strong judgment, analytical skills, and willingness to innovate.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Advanced organizational skills and inquisitive mindset.
- Sophisticated math skills for calculations (percentages, fractions, financial figures).
