Building Engineer
About the role
This position involves the efficient operation and preventative maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within a class A building. It includes taking direction from the Chief Engineer, completing work orders promptly, and supervising vendors during building systems testing and tenant buildouts. Additionally, the role may involve emergency on-call duties and occasional overtime.
Responsibilities
- Assist with troubleshooting and repairs of buildings and installed systems, including HVAC, building controls, electrical, fire alarm, and suppression systems.
- Clean, lubricate, and service a wide variety of pumps, valves, electrical, and mechanical devices.
- Troubleshoot, evaluate, and make recommendations to upgrade maintenance operations and/or implement savings opportunities.
- Possess competent knowledge of the use and care of tools and equipment used in facility operations.
- Respond immediately to emergency situations and customer service requests as assigned.
- Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment for unsafe or malfunctioning conditions, preventative maintenance, etc.
- Maintain and operate fire and life safety systems such as fire alarm systems, fire pumps, and related fire protection system equipment as assigned.
- Capable of operating scissor and boom lifts.
- Efficient at reading and documenting gas and water meters.
- Perform carpentry and snow removal when necessary.
- Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency, and Company directives as related to building operations and practice safe work habits.
- Use technology such as smart phones, tablets, computers, web-based applications, building automation systems, etc.
Requirements
- Technical proficiency in at least one of the following areas: HVAC, electrical, mechanical, Building management systems.
- Basic computing skills in Outlook, Excel & Word.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of related experience in a commercial property setting.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Skills
- Technical, vocational, or on-the-job training in at least one of the following areas: HVAC, electrical, mechanical, Building management systems.
- Basic Computing Skills in Outlook, Excel & Word.

The compensation for this role is $39.95 - $47.00 per hour, based on eligibility factors such as geographic location, date of hire, total hours worked, job type, business line, and applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
