About the Role

We are looking for an Air Resources Supervisor I to lead the Emerging Strategies Section in the California Air Resources Board’s Sustainable Transportation and Communities Division (STCD). STCD uses multi-disciplinary teams to integrate data, research, planning, regulations, and incentives to foster zero-emission communities that provide affordable housing and transportation options, drive electrification, reduce vehicle miles traveled, and meet community needs while promoting equity, access to opportunity, and community resiliency.

The Emerging Strategies Section leads policy development and implementation to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from building operations, including through the Clean Space and Water Heater Standards (CSWHS) as committed to in California’s 2022 Strategy for the State Implementation Plan. The section is responsible for policy analysis and design, regulatory development and implementation, preparing regulatory documents and related reports and presentations, engaging with and incorporating feedback from interested parties and the public, and collaborating with public agencies and others on complementary building decarbonization policies. Equity considerations are integrated throughout this work to ensure policy design, engagement processes, and implementation approaches are accessible, inclusive, and responsive to community needs.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor five staff, overseeing the effective and timely completion of projects.
  • Set clear expectations, maintain strong communication practices, and guide staff in preparing reports, presentations, speeches, and other technical and policy materials requiring a broad understanding of Board-wide programs.
  • Form and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders and public agencies at all levels of government.
  • Facilitate meetings and collaborative discussions.
  • Perform supervisory and administrative activities, including hiring, evaluating, and training staff, assigning work with clear deadlines, and ensuring a balanced workload among staff.
  • Respond to public inquiries, review reports and contracts, and give presentations related to section issues.
  • Carry out other duties needed to support the branch's mission and work.

Requirements

  • Applicants must include a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ), a narrative discussion describing how their skills, knowledge, abilities, education, training, and experience qualify them for the position. The SOQ must document the candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing.
  • SOQ must be a maximum of 2 pages (Arial font, 12 point, single spaced, 1-inch margins).
  • Cover letters and resumes do not replace the SOQ.
  • Candidates whose applications do not include the required SOQ will not be considered for this position.

Pay

$11,437.00 - $14,315.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Schedule

Permanent, full-time position with hybrid telework options.
