Job Responsibilities
The Building Construction Trades Instructor at York Technical College performs the following functions:
- Teaches and tests relevant content.
- Maintains office hours and availability for advising.
- Provides academic guidance and assists students in setting and meeting educational goals.
- Prepares and maintains competency-based course syllabi and support materials.
- Assists with textbook selection and participates in instructional resource selection.
- Promotes the College and participates in recruitment and placement efforts.
- Serves on advisory committees and supports the continuing education program.
- Participates in professional development activities and keeps current in the teaching field.
- Maintains required records and submits reports accurately and promptly.
- Manages classrooms effectively and prioritizes duties.
- Handles student work and records professionally.
Requirements
- Average of at least five years of full-time, verifiable experience in residential and/or commercial construction.
- A minimum of an Associate degree in Building Construction, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
- A Residential Builder’s or General Contractor’s License.
- Demonstrated proficiency in multiple trade areas, including framing and structural systems, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC fundamentals, blueprint reading, and building codes.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Building Science, or a related discipline.
- Industry-recognized certifications such as OSHA 10/30, EPA Universal, or other trade-specific credentials.
- Previous teaching, training, or supervisory experience in a construction or skilled trades environment.
- Experience coordinating multi-trade projects or applied learning labs that replicate real-world jobsite conditions.
