Building Construction Inspector II

Immediate vacancies are with the Department of Accounting & General Services in Kona and Hilo, Hawaii Island. This continuous recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies.

Pay

$6,090 to $6,704 per month (SR-19, Step C to I). Salary includes Shortage Category Differential. Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.

Duties

• Inspect and measure construction materials used, and check methods employed in construction.
• Inspect the erection of false work and concrete forms.
• Accept or reject concrete forms, construction equipment, and materials based on specifications or modifications approved by a higher-level inspector.
• Keep detailed records of work completed and materials used.
• Prepare and submit routine inspection reports as directed.
• Prepare monthly progress reports concerning the construction project.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
• Basic Experience/Education: Work experience demonstrating the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, write simply and directly, and perform arithmetic computations.
• General Experience: Two years of journey-level experience in the building construction trades, demonstrating knowledge of building construction methods, materials, safety requirements, and the ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
• Specialized Experience: One year of either:
  • Building construction inspection work experience; or
  • Supervisory work experience over skilled trades workers in the building construction industry, involving responsibility for interpreting plans and specifications and inspecting the quality of workmanship and materials.
• Possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
• Able to lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted and 70 pounds assisted by another person or equipment (e.g., hoisting equipment, hand truck).
