About the role

The City of Raleigh Engineering Services department is seeking a skilled Building Automation and Security Specialist. This position performs skilled repair in the maintenance of building automation and control systems. Troubleshoots a wide range of technical components, including controllers, control programs, networks, etc. This employee performs diagnostics tests and resolves technical issues by operating applicable equipment and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots technical components by identifying issues, conducting root cause analysis, performing diagnostic testing, troubleshooting hardware and software, diagnosing network issues, addressing database problems, resolving storage issues, and troubleshooting power related issues
  • Performs work in the field to resolve problems and replace defective equipment for controllers, Electronic Access Devices, and Video Recording devices, servers, and IP Cameras
  • Resolves cable and communication issues, and power problems
  • Conducts verification testing to ensure contractors meet specifications for new installations or modified solutions in Building Automation, Electronic Security Access, and Video Management Systems. Documents test results by providing a test report
  • Configures network settings for IP cameras, controllers, intercom systems, and video recording servers. Collaborates with City IT on network configurations. Programs schedules for Building Automation and Electronic Security Access, and performs user and role management for Building, Automation, Video Management, and Electronic Security Access systems
  • Performs on-call rotational duties, inclement weather duties, and emergency response. Supports a rotational shift for weather-related events or emergency operation support. Serves in an on-call capacity and plays a key role in emergency situations involving automation systems. Provides pertinent information related to power outages and system outages and restorations through the building automation system
  • Utilizes a building automation system platform and project management software to make control setpoint changes, troubleshoot problems, and generate historical energy data reports for the Building Automation System. Configures access rights, personnel data, and credential data, and generates Security Access reports
  • Performs reviews and captures video evidence using the Video Management System application. Collaborates with law enforcement to provide video evidence and grant access to IP cameras
  • Performs related work as required

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be dependable, motivated, and committed to helping create more efficient building systems. The typical qualifications include an Associate's Degree or 2 Years of College in HVAC Technology, Building Automation Technology, Information Technology, Computer Science or related field; 3 to 5 years' experience in the maintenance and repair of automated building climate control, security or related systems OR Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted. Required Licenses or Certifications: Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
