BTS Equipment Operator

About the role

Perform skilled journey-level work involving the operation and maintenance of hoisting equipment, heavy equipment, and related maintenance equipment. All work is subject to spot checking and inspection for conformance to specifications and accepted trade standards.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment including cranes, dump trucks, straight or articulated rubber-tired tractor-type vehicles equipped with front-mounted or back-mounted hydraulically powered bucket or scoop, and other related equipment in support of maintenance and construction tasks such as earth moving, paving, snow cleaning, hoisting/loading, unloading, and relocating heavy materials and equipment.
• Perform regular maintenance and general repair on equipment operated; keep supervisor informed of needed equipment replacements and upgrades.
• Observe and enforce all safety requirements related to equipment operation.
• Operate and maintain other related equipment for tasks including earth moving, paving, snow clearing, hoisting/loading, unloading, and relocating heavy materials and equipment.
• Keep assigned tools and equipment in operational order by performing routine repairs, maintenance, and adjustments; perform manual tasks using hand tools and small power tools for paving and other maintenance service projects.
• Clean, maintain, safely operate, and properly store all tools.
• May perform or assist with preparation of cost estimates, material orders, reports, and maintenance of records.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
• Four years of actual work experience and training, including the equivalent of apprenticeship or vocational training in the trade.
• Ability to read blueprints, plans, and drawings.
• Skill in maintenance and use of tools, equipment, and materials of the applicable trade.
• Daily ability to:
  • Grasp, lift, maneuver, rotate, and otherwise use small to large trades tools and equipment.
  • Grasp, lift, carry, and set down heavy (50-80 lbs.) objects.
  • Grasp, turn, twist, pull, push, lift, and otherwise move equipment, controls, parts, etc.
  • Visually assess maintenance, construction, and repair needs.
  • Climb and work from ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.
• A valid driver’s license may be required.
• Depending on the nature of work performed, the incumbent may be required to wear a respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
• A CDL is required or must be obtained within 6 months of starting the position.

Preferred Qualifications

• CDL obtained within 6 months of starting the position.

Pay

Salary Range: $24.00 - $27.40 per hour, dependent upon qualifications and years of experience.

Schedule

7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday - Friday
