BT Willard North Royalton YMCA - Child Care Lead Teacher

About the role

The Lead Teacher is responsible for administering child care programs at designated YMCA program sites. This responsibility includes creating and implementing lesson plans, maintaining site records, and additional program responsibilities to ensure state licensure compliance and overall effective program management.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety of children by appropriately supervising program participants at all times while maintaining YMCA and state licensing staff to child ratios.
• Implement age-appropriate techniques relative to the behavior management of children.
• Plan, develop, and implement appropriate lesson plans and activities, following YMCA curriculum guidelines, and incorporate them into the daily schedule.
• Complete and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports in a timely manner as assigned by supervisor, i.e. taking attendance, CACFP, etc.
• Maintain a file system that will include all policies, school year schedules, ODJFS child day care rules, child enrollment information and staff files.
• Provide coverage of program as needed and arrange for substitute instructors in coordination with supervisor.
• Notify supervisor of any parent concerns or unsafe conditions at center, as well as foster ongoing communication with supervisor regarding center operations.
• Communicate with supervisor when essential supplies, i.e. First Aid and blood borne pathogen protective equipment, snack, etc., are needed.
• Administer First Aid to children/staff if required.
• Ensure daily cleaning and maintenance of space/facility.
• Work with supervisor on promotional activities and flyers.
• Work with supervisor to develop and distribute site informational newsletters to parents.
• Develop and maintain positive communication with parents.
• Develop and implement family activities/events.
• Represent YMCA by developing positive working relationships with program participants and parents.
• May be named on the license and supports the Site Director in ensuring all licensing requirements are followed.

Qualifications

• Education & Certifications: Minimum high school diploma. Certification in CPR at the level of Basic Life Support or Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen Administration and associated-determined safety training required within 30 days of hire.
• Experience: Minimum 2 years working in a licensed childcare program. Previous experience WORKING with diverse populations preferred. Minimum 1-year experience working with Microsoft office products. Minimum 1 years' experience with all ODJFS licensing procedures and Step Up to Quality requirements preferred.
• Technical Skills and Knowledge: Willingness and ability to be a mandated reporter for any signs or suspicion of child abuse and neglect. Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to administer the program, fiscal, and personnel policies of the association, a person in this position must possess the insights and skills of modern management (ex. Continuous Improvement) to achieve the goals and objectives of the organization. Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others. Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations. Excellent time management, customer service, attention to detail and organizational skills. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite with excellent Excel skills, experience with comparable payroll/HRIS system preference for ADP, Kronos, or Ceridian.

Physical Demands

• Ability to drive from site to site throughout Northeast Ohio.
• Frequent communication with students.
• Frequent walking, stooping, bending, crocths, and kneeling to child’s eye level, and to maintain clean working environment.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
