About the role

The Senior Structural Engineer leads the engineering team and designs agricultural grain storage, handling, and conditioning equipment, focusing on large, complex structures with multiple stories, walkways, electrical/mechanical systems, and multi-story products.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills, and experience.
  • Layout and detail portions of projects using schematic layouts provided by project lead engineers.
  • May be responsible for schematic or conceptual layouts when qualified.
  • Provide drawings for own designs and produce sketches to incorporate into drawings by detailers.
  • Review, analyze, and apply modeling results to ensure code conformance requirements are met.
  • Utilize a gated design process while maintaining a master project list to communicate progress.
  • Create and develop new structural designs that meet or exceed customer and regulatory needs.
  • Coordinate and support prototype construction and validate the product to ensure it meets design and cost specifications.
  • Communicate with internal manufacturing, supply, and sales teams to ensure all design project goals and deliverables are achieved.
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines on customer projects.
  • Provides onsite or in-field support to customers and sales team with product presentations, technical services, and installation techniques to meet or exceed service and brand promise goals.
  • Supports and participates in the development of product documentation, manuals, sales presentations/tools, and technical literature to ensure accurate documentation of product features and benefits.
  • Supports and participates in the product training for sales and customer service teams to enhance their technical knowledge of product performance, features, and benefits.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or recent college graduate with 1 year of experience within a similar industry.
  • Experience: 5+ years of structural steel design; experience in agricultural or industrial projects is preferred.
  • Certification(s): Professional Engineer (PE) is a plus.
  • Functional Skills: Solid understanding of structural analysis and structural steel design, including AISC 360, AISC 341; knowledge of codes such as International Building Code, ASCE 7, OSHA 1910; detail-oriented, thorough, with the ability to complete projects on time.
  • Technology Aptitude/Skills: Knowledge and previous training in 3D structural analysis software, preferably RISA; experience in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
  • Language Skills: Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English; able to present and communicate effectively.
