Broadband Technician I
About the role
As a Broadband Technician I, you will perform basic installations, disconnects, and service changes for residential and business customers. These services include video service, high-speed data (HSD) services, and home phone service installation. This role performs basic troubleshooting from the tap to the customer’s electronic devices (TV, DVD, modem, etc.). You will assist with installing, splicing, repairing, and maintaining aerial, buried, and/or underground fiber optic and copper cable.
Due to in-field support and on-call requirements, you must reside within a 60-minute driving distance from the St George, UT warehouse located at: 314 N 3050 E Ste A1, Saint George, UT 84790.
Responsibilities
- Performs connects (new connects and reconnects), disconnects (requested and non-pays), upgrades, downgrades, and relocates; installs additional outlets and installs or removes equipment (e.g., converters).
- Performs basic installation of all necessary cable wiring (interior and exterior) and hardware from the tap to the customer’s equipment for reception of cable and other company services for single and multi-family residences. This may include burial of underground broadband facilities using excavation or hand digging for placement of drop facilities to customer premises, streets, and right of way, as well as placement of conduit and pulling hardline into conduits.
- Responsible for placement of conduit structure in new subdivision joint trench construction projects.
- Ensures all work conforms to quality control guidelines, including compliance with OSHA, FCC, NEC, and NESC regulations.
- Assures proper signal levels and picture quality on all television sets and cleans the premises of debris and material after installation.
- Monitors and records system, drop, and in-house leakage; properly records all required information on work orders, surveys, and referrals.
- Promotes cable, internet, and other company services; educates customers on proper use, including how to add additional services, channel lineups, equipment usage, and other available services.
Requirements
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must follow TDS attendance guidelines to meet business and customer needs.
- Must successfully complete customer-specific requirements, which may include a background check.
- Available for on-call/standby responsibilities and occasional travel.
- Willing to work overtime as needed.
- Must successfully pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum upon hire.
- Ability to maintain DOT requirements for operating vehicles with a combined GVRW of over 10,000 lbs.
- Practical knowledge/experience with computer applications.
- Familiarity with company products and services.
- Proven organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
- Demonstrated customer service, sales, and communication skills (verbal and written) for interaction with internal and external customers.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Physical requirements may include digging, lifting, and climbing.
- Successful completion of the SCTE Broadband Premise Install test within the first 3 months of employment.
Schedule
The anticipated shift for this role is Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with a call rotation required.
