About the role
Micheal Baker International's Baltimore Bridge practice brings together deep regional knowledge, technical rigor, and hands-on delivery experience to address bridge design, inspection, rehabilitation, load rating, construction-phase, and preservation challenges throughout Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic. This local bridge practice is further strengthened by Michael Baker International's national bridge capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Perform bridge inspections, compile thorough inspection reports, and complete load rating assessments for both simple and complex bridge structures.
- Perform structural analyses and prepare comprehensive design calculations for bridges and related transportation infrastructure.
- Develop detailed contract drawings, technical specifications, quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and study reports.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary design teams to support project delivery on schedule and within budget.
- Mentor entry-level engineers and lead assigned task orders efficiently and effectively.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, with a concentration in bridges or structures, from an ABET-accredited university.
- 4+ years of experience in bridge inspection, design, structural analysis, or related transportation infrastructure work.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Maryland, or ability to obtain licensure within two months of employment.
- Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills, with a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Proficiency with structural analysis and design software, such as Merlin-DASH, OpenBridge Designer, STAAD Pro, and AASHTOWare BrR.
- Working knowledge of applicable design codes, including AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation, ACI 318 Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete, AISC Steel Construction Manual, and AREMA – Manual for Railway Engineering.
- Experience with structural analysis and design of steel, reinforced concrete, and prestressed concrete structures.
- Familiarity with SHA, MDTA, MTA, and VDOT design and construction standards.
- NHI two-week bridge inspection certification required.
- NHI Bridge Inspection for Nonredundant Steel Tension Members certification preferred.

- Compensation: The approximate compensation range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000.
