Bridge Inspection Team Leader - Structural Engineer

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Bridge Inspection Team Leader, Structural Engineer to join our Bridge & Infrastructure Inspection Team in New England, with offices in Boston, MA; Worcester, MA; Glastonbury, CT; and Providence, RI. Positions based in Glastonbury, CT will primarily support Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Bridge Inspection projects statewide.

Responsibilities

• Work with our Bridge & Infrastructure Inspection Team on a variety of inspection-related projects.
• Serve as Team Leader on Bridge, Tunnel & Ancillary Inspections.
• Perform professional structural engineering work and inspections.
• Assist in the preparation of Bridge & Tunnel Load Ratings.
• Assist with the development of plans/sketches using AutoCAD.
• Work with cross-functional teams to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects.
• Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
• Support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
• Support preparation of cost proposals and scope of work documents.
• Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
• Complete training on assignment-specific tasks.
• Remain current in latest structural engineering techniques and practices.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
• 5 to 7 years of experience in bridge, tunnel, or ancillary inspection or design or other infrastructure-related work.
• Engineer in Training Certification (PE Preferred).
• Proficient knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and application to project work-related issues.
• Demonstrated interest in structures, transportation, or related field with a strong desire to advance skills.
• Physically capable of performing continuous field work, including working at heights, in close quarters, climbing, carrying ladders and gear, working in adverse weather conditions, and working at night around moving vehicles.
• This position has the potential to work 50% of the time in the field and 50% in the office.
• Successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Record check and a valid Driver’s License is required.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively to engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members.
• Advanced proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and tools.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
• Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
• Occasional travel, including potential overnight stays, may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer Certification.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
• Membership and/or active participation in local professional practice organizations.

Pay

Expected salary (all locations): $90,600 - $150,590. WSP USA is providing the compensation range based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and geographic location.
