WSP is seeking a Bridge Inspection Team Leader, Senior Structural Engineer to join our Bridge & Infrastructure Inspection Team in New England, with offices in Boston, MA; Worcester, MA; Glastonbury, CT; and Providence, RI. This role is ideal for someone new to people leadership interested in becoming a Team Leader. Positions based in Glastonbury, CT will primarily support Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Bridge Inspection projects statewide.

Join a collaborative team of experts contributing to projects that shape communities and the future. This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of inspection-related projects, lead bridge, tunnel, and ancillary inspections, and perform professional structural engineering work.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Bridge, Tunnel, and Ancillary Inspections as a Team Leader.
  • Perform professional structural engineering work and inspections.
  • Assist in the preparation of Bridge & Tunnel Load Ratings.
  • Develop plans and sketches using AutoCAD.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams of engineers, architects, planners, and scientific professionals on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
  • Support engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
  • Assist with project research, field work, preliminary design calculations, and analysis.
  • Prepare cost proposals and scope of work documents.
  • Collect and maintain project documentation.
  • Complete assignment-specific training.
  • Stay current with the latest structural engineering techniques and practices.
  • Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies, exercising responsible and ethical decision-making.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 7 to 10 years of experience in bridge, tunnel, or ancillary inspection, design, or other infrastructure-related work.
  • Engineer in Training Certification (Professional Engineer (PE) preferred).
  • Proficient knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, and design/build applications.
  • Strong interest in structures, transportation, or related fields with a desire to advance skills.
  • Physically capable of performing continuous field work, including working at heights, in close quarters, climbing, carrying ladders and gear, and working in adverse weather conditions or at night around moving vehicles.
  • This position may require 50% field work and 50% office work.
  • Valid Driver’s License and successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Record check.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and provide leadership to junior team members.
  • Advanced proficiency in technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Commitment to upholding workplace safety and abiding by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work extended schedules based on project-specific requirements.
  • Occasional travel, including potential overnight stays, may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) Certification.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Active membership or participation in local professional practice organizations.
  • Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.

Pay

Expected salary range (all locations): $103,500 - $175,230. The final compensation will be based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal equity.
