Bridge Inspection Team Leader (Ewing, NJ)

Pickering, Corts & Summerson, Inc., an award-winning, multi-disciplinary engineering/design firm, has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic self-starter to join our company as a Bridge Inspection Team Leader in our Ewing, NJ offices. This senior-level position involves the inspection of bridges and similar structures to determine structural soundness and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations throughout New Jersey.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team in the inspection of bridges and foundations for structural integrity, general safety, and continued conformance to specifications and codes.
• Prepare sketches and draft reports in writing.
• Provide full reports and recommendations to the Project Manager.
• Review and interpret plans, blueprints, and site layouts to ensure compliance with legal requirements and safety regulations.
• Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures and fixtures to ensure compliance with existing codes.
• Prepare recommendations for bridge repairs for review by the Project Manager.
• Use inspection equipment, including but not limited to metering devices, tape measures, calipers, ladders, cameras, and probing rods.
• Load and unload equipment from vehicles and ensure all equipment is ready for use.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution (required).
• Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of New Jersey (preferred); equivalent experience accepted.
• Five (5) years of prior experience in bridge inspection for the NJDOT and NJTA.
• Ability to work within a group environment to reach mutual goals.
• Good time management and personal motivation for quality work.
• Proven skills in oral and written communications.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to use inspection equipment and diving equipment as required.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Engage in active, and sometimes strenuous, work involving the physical inspection of large bridge structures, including climbing and occasional diving to view structures below the water surface.
• Participate in boat activities and wading as required.
• Ability to lift or carry a minimum of 20 pounds.
• May require working from a mechanical aerial lift or bucket truck, up to 100 ft. high.
• Requires climbing a ladder, up to 20 ft. high.
• Involves spending considerable time outdoors in all types of weather.
• Traveling and long hours may be required for some assignments.
