Bridge Inspection Team Leader
About the role
The AECOM North Carolina Transportation team is seeking a Bridge Inspector Team Lead to join our growing structural and transportation group located in Raleigh, NC. This role will support the planning, analysis, design, and rehabilitation of bridges and related transportation structures across a variety of public-sector projects.
Responsibilities
Performing field inspections in accordance with National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and local agency requirements.
Overseeing inspection teams in the field, including mentoring and training of junior staff on inspection methodologies and best practices.
Completing Quality Control reviews on inspection reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards.
Completing Load Ratings for in-service and new bridges in accordance with applicable codes and specifications.
Performing structural design of new and rehabilitated bridges using industry-standard software and analysis tools.
Preparing comprehensive inspection reports and technical documentation for submission to client agencies and stakeholders.
Coinciding with public-sector agencies, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives and timelines are met.
Ensuring compliance with all applicable safety protocols, regulations, and OSHA requirements during field operations.
Performing specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
Gathering and correlating basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
Proposing approaches to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
Identifying discrepancies in results and recommending corrective actions.
Providing guidance and professional development support to entry-level engineers.
Independently performing all tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.
Requirements
BA/BS degree plus 4 years of related experience, or AS Degree plus 6 years of related experience, or HS/GED plus 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency and/or education.
Valid US Driver’s License required to regularly drive AECOM vehicles to project sites.
Frequent travel to project and field locations.
Travel distances and project locations will vary and may require overnight stays as needed.
Frequent lifting of equipment up to 50 pounds unassisted.
Qualifications
PE (any state), ability to obtain in North Carolina within 3 months located in North Carolina.
4 years experience in bridge engineering.
Skills
Ability to perform field inspections in accordance with NBIS and local agency requirements.
Experience in designing and rehabilitating bridges.
Proficiency in industry-standard software and analysis tools.
Strong communication and mentoring skills.
Ability to coordinate with public-sector agencies and stakeholders.
Knowledge of safety protocols, regulations, and OSHA requirements.
Ability to prepare comprehensive inspection reports and technical documentation.
Experience in gathering and correlating basic engineering data.
Ability to propose solutions to new problems encountered.
Ability to identify discrepancies in results and recommend corrective actions.
Ability to provide guidance and support to entry-level engineers.
