Clark Nexsen is seeking a motivated and experienced Bridge Inspection Team Leader to join our growing bridge safety inspection practice.

Responsibilities

This role involves leading bridge inspection teams, performing in-depth structural condition assessments, and preparing thorough inspection reports compliant with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in bridge inspection, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to safety and quality.

  • Lead the engineering design for tasks or sub-tasks in a specialized discipline by using basic project management and advanced knowledge of general engineering principles.
  • Coordinate with design and other project engineers to efficiently complete project goals delivered on schedule, budget, and of quality.
  • Support overall Project Manager by executing project management responsibilities for respective discipline, including developing hours estimates, scope, etc.
  • Provide design status updates to the Project Manager and track the budgets of discipline task(s).
  • Oversee sub-tasks within their respective discipline for a project and execute quality control and quality assurance plans as provided by the PMP for project.
  • Delegate project tasks to project team members and coach/mentor design staff through the design process.
  • Provide consultative services to the client(s), including attending client meetings, providing timely updates, and appropriate solutions to meet their expectations.
  • Collaborate and manage project sub-consultants and other internal disciplines.
  • Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals.
  • Perform alternative studies, evaluate impacts, develop and finalize reports for client.

Requirements

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT): 2+ years of inspection experience.
  • Non-degree candidates: 5+ years of bridge inspection experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE): 6 months to 10+ years of bridge inspection experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an ABET-accredited college or university in one of the following disciplines: Civil Engineering (structural emphasis), Civil and Environmental Engineering (structural emphasis), Civil Engineering Technology (structural emphasis).

Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience working with local clients at the county and state level.
  • Professional Engineer License.
  • Successful completion of NHI Course #130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges or NHI Course #130056 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges for Professional Engineers.
  • Successful completion of NHI Course #130053 Bridge Inspection Refresher Training as per NBIS requirements.
  • Knowledge and familiarity of the National Bridge Inspection Standards, AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation, AASHTO Manual for Bridge Element Inspection, and the Bridge Inspector’s Reference Manual.
  • Working familiarity with analysis, design, and production software including but not limited to Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint, Bluebeam Revu, and additional web-based software for data entry, AASHTOWareBrR, and MicroStation.
  • Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) training Types 1, 2, and 3 is desirable.
  • Prior experience on VDOT and/or Federal bridge inspection projects is desirable.

Skills

  • NCEES Record to facilitate licensure through reciprocity is desirable.
  • Active participation in NSPE, ASCE, or other related professional organizations is desirable.
  • Ability to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, accounting, and information management.
  • Ability to prepare effective and concise documents and correspondence.
  • Ability to make presentations to a variety of groups.
  • Client-oriented attitude with a desire to provide outstanding professional services.
  • Dedication to his or her professional development as well as the success of colleagues and the firm as a whole.
  • Dedication to the advancement of the engineering profession.

Working Conditions

At JMT, we prioritize a healthy work/life balance and offer a flexible hybrid working schedule. The selected candidate is expected to work in a JMT office location at least three days per week or as needed to perform assigned duties.

Field work is required where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.

Pay

Compensation for this position is $85,000.00 - $140,000.00, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications.
