About the role
We are currently seeking a Bridge Engineer I to join our Transportation Business Line in either our Harrisburg or Pittsburgh, PA offices. This role offers a flexible work schedule, including hybrid (virtual and in-office) options.
Responsibilities
- Perform structural design and analysis for steel and concrete bridge systems, including plate girders, rolled beams, prestressed concrete, and post-tensioned components.
- Prepare engineering calculations, quantity takeoffs, and technical reports.
- Develop engineering plans, details, and specifications using CAD tools such as Bentley MicroStation and OpenBridge Designer (OBD).
- Support the design of new bridge structures and rehabilitation projects for transportation clients.
- Participate in bridge inspections and assist with inspection documentation and reporting if interested.
- Perform or assist with bridge load ratings.
- Support construction engineering activities including temporary shoring, falsework design, and erection calculations.
- Review shop drawings and assist with construction phase services.
- Cook up with project teams to ensure timely and high-quality project delivery.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.
- 2+ years of experience in bridge or structural engineering.
- Experience in all aspects of bridge design projects; bridge inspection experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in structural analysis/design software (LARSA, SAP, LEAP, BDS, PCA Col, etc.); familiarity with PennDOT Design Software is a plus.
- Familiarity with Bentley MicroStation and/or OpenBridge Designer (OBD) preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet project deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
